T.J.'s Mission:
Our population of approximately 450 encompasses students of many diverse backgrounds and cultures in kindergarten through sixth grade. We strive to provide the kind of individual attention that encourages students both academically and socially and makes our large school seem like a smaller, more personal one. Thomas Jefferson's mission is to empower our students to be self-motivated, world-class learners who demonstrate respect, responsibility, and commitment to academic excellence. Our motto is One Terrific Journey, and staff, parents, and community supporters are all dedicated to making each child's journey at Thomas Jefferson truly terrific!

Monday, March 20 7:00 pm - SPARK Meeting - Empowering Bright, Struggling Learnings to Thrive and Succeed - Sundling Jr. High

Tuesday, March 21 7:00-8:30pm - Sundling Jr. High - NWSC PTA District 15 School Board Candidate Forum - There are 11 candidates running for 5 open District 15 school board positions (one 2 year term and four 4 year terms) in the April 4th election. Candidates will have a two-minute opening statement followed by a Question & Answer session. Written questions will be submitted by the audience. Candidates will also have a one-minute closing statement at the end of the forum. Michelle Sheppard, Illinois PTA V.P. Field Operations, will serve as moderator. Friday, March 24 - 3rd/4th grade Adventures in Reading - This week is our final week for 3rd and 4th grade Adventures in Reading. To round out their fun, the kids who've been involved will celebrate with a pizza party during lunch. Please remember to return the books your child has been reading. Our Weekly High 5 – You did it, we appreciate it!

This week we want to give a big High 5 to our Adventures in Reading Chairs Jen Wessberg and Heather Ji and all of our volunteers who have helped make reading so much fun for our 1st - 4th graders! The kids have had so much fun reading new books, discussing them with their friends and doing a bunch of fun projects! This great club wouldn't be possible without all of the wonderful volunteers who make it possible to get our kids excited about reading! Thank you!  

Opportunities for Involvement

       D15 Community Engagement Committee - In January, a group of 45 volunteers throughout the district began meeting to develop a new process for gathering input from the entire community for the purposes of informing the decisions of District 15. This committee is in the process of gathering contact information for not only parents in the district, but all taxpayers. They have created a Facebook page and an email address (communityengagementd15@gmail.com) to use as resources to contact residents. Please take a moment to "Like" their Facebook page or email them to add your email address to their contact list. Also, please take a moment to share their information with other residents within District 15.  

       Adventures in Reading (AIR) – Volunteers are needed on Fridays (3/3-3/24) for our 3rd and 4th grade program from 11:15am-12:25 am. Contact Jen Wessberg (msjen78@aol.com) if you are interested in helping.

       Green Team – We are looking for 1-2 parent volunteers to help with Green Team meetings from 11:25-12:25 every 2nd Wednesday of the month, as well as a volunteer to help with Green Wednesdays the 3rd Wednesday of the month. We’re also looking for donations of gently used toys to be raffled off to students during Green Wednesday lunches. Contact Patricia Bell (pabell1102@gmail.com) for more information.

       Teacher of the Year Contest - TJ's School Picture and Yearbook Company, Inter-State Studio, is running a contest called "Teacher of the Year". Winning teachers will win $200 or $300 classroom grants. There are entry divisions for both students or parents (peers) to nominate. If you or your child is interested in nominating a teacher, see Inter-State's nomination site for more information by clicking here.
